The Maps
What is a Heritage Elevated map?
A Heritage Elevated map is a three-dimensional terrain model of a country, created from real elevation data and finished by hand.
Rather than representing a country only through its borders and political geography, each map brings the physical landscape itself into three dimensions.
What does “real elevation data” mean?
The terrain of each map is based on real-world elevation data. Our models are created using elevation data from NASA’s Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) Global 30-meter Digital Elevation Dataset.
This means the mountains, valleys, plateaus, and other terrain features represented on the map are based on the actual landscape.
Are the maps 3D printed?
The finished maps are not 3D-printed objects.
A 3D printer is used to create the original terrain model. That model is then used to create a mold, and each finished map is cast in urethane resin and hand-finished.
This allows us to create physical reproductions while preserving the detail of the original terrain model.
What does the vertical relief represent?
The terrain represents real-world elevation, with the vertical relief exaggerated so that the landscape can be seen and appreciated as a physical object.
The amount of vertical exaggeration varies by country because each landscape has its own geographic dimensions and range of elevations.
What sizes are available?
| Size | Approximate Dimensions |
|---|---|
| Small | 9 × 7 × 1.18 in |
| Medium | 11.5 × 9 × 1.5 in |
| Large | 14 × 12 × 2 in |
Dimensions include the frame.
What colors are available?
Each country is offered in colors inspired by its national flag. Current color options are shown on the individual product page.
Are the maps framed?
Yes. Every Heritage Elevated map comes ready to display in a shadow-box frame with a protective plexiglass cover.
Each frame includes a sawtooth hanger, and we also provide a push pin so you can hang your map as soon as it arrives.
Will every map look exactly the same?
No—and that’s part of what makes each piece unique.
The underlying terrain model for a country is consistent, but every map is hand-painted. Small variations in color boundaries, paint application, and details may occur from one piece to another.
Your map is made individually rather than mass-produced.
How should I care for my map?
Your map is designed for indoor display. Keep it in a dry environment and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or excessive heat.
To clean the frame, gently wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid applying cleaning products directly to the map or plexiglass.
